NU softball wins with Zill homer

Niagara Gazette — LEWISTON — Becky Zill's walk-off home run in the seventh inning lifted Niagara University over University of Maryland Baltimore County, 4-3, in softball action at Niagara on Sunday.

The home run was a welcomed exclamation point in what is Zill's final at-bat on the Niagara campus. The senior hit her 26th career home run and finished the game going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore Amanda Werth went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs.

The Purple Eagles (15-28) next play on Thursday, when they open the MAAC Tournament in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
