Niagara Gazette

Niagara Gazette — LEWISTON — Niagara University men's basketball head coach Chris Casey finalized his staff Friday by introducing four assistants, all of whom have worked with Casey elsewhere.

Mark Rybczyk, Kareem Brown and R.J. Rutledge arrive at Monteagle Ridge from LIU Post while Will Lanier joins the Niagara staff after serving previously as an assistant at Marist.

Rybczyk brings over 14 years of collegiate coaching experience to the staff, his last three under Casey at LIU Post.

Brown spent three seasons at LIU Post as an assistant coach/basketball operations director, where the Pioneers won two ECC Championships and twice advanced the NCAA tournament. In addition to his coaching duties, Brown's responsibilities at LIU Post included recruiting, player development, game film breakdown, academic progress of student-athletes, and supervision of student managers.

Rutledge will serve as the director of basketball operations after spending the last two seasons on Casey’s staff at LIU Post. He played four seasons as a member of the Monmouth Hawks basketball team, where he averaged 18.6 minutes per game in 101 games played, scoring an average 5.9 points per game.

Prior to his arrival at Marist, Lanier spent four seasons on the staff of St. John's University with Casey. He served the 2006-08 seasons full-time on staff after working as a graduate assistant from 2004-06. His responsibilities at St. John's included the coordination and editing of game film, scouting video, coordinating team travel and assisting with all day-to-day operations.
