Youth Baseball: Heat fall in title game; earn win in Clarence League

Niagara Gazette — The Cayuga/Mark Cerrone 9U Heat qualified for the championship game in their own "Cayuga Early Bird Classic," but fell in the title game Sunday morning, 17-3, to Lancaster-Depew. 

The Heat made up for their tournament loss with a big win Sunday evening in the Clarence Travel League, defeating Lou Gehrig by a final score of 12-2.

Jr. Thunderwolves win in Buffalo

The Niagara Jr. Thunderwolves 14U squad opened its Clarence Travel League season with a 4-2 victory over Nickel City 9 at Cazenovia Park. 

Mike Laurrie held Nickel City to four hits and one run in four innings on the mound. Matt Grace drove in to runs, including the game winner. Bobby Newbury also scored an RBI, while David Gariano, Tommy Watroba, Dennis Gagliardo all added hits. 

Chris Ewing struck out two in the seventh to close out the game.

10U Predators Prevail

The Lewiston Predators earned their first win in the Clarence Travel League 10U division, defeating the Mathewson-McCarthy Bandits, 7-4. Zach Reed led the Predators with a three-run double, while Vincent Mauro scored two runs and drove in two more. Jacob Niccola also scored two runs.  

On the mound, Carter Krawczyk pitched two scoreless innings and picked up the win, while Lucas Eoute also pitched a scoreless inning.

The Predators improved their record to 1-1 with the victory.
