HS Sports Roundup: Wilson girls soccer wins big

Niagara Gazette — The Wilson girls soccer team won big Tuesday night, beating CSAT 11-0 in a Niagara-Orleans league match.

Holly Rudolph and Marina Muth each netted two goals for the Lakewomen, while Bekah Blasius, Zipporah Barrett, Bailey Olds, MacKenziie Horvath and Kayla Neumann added solo tallies.

Lauren Austin dished three assists, while Katlynne Tubow notched her fourth shutout of the season.

Niagara Falls 5, O’Hara 0

Mallory Garabetian led the Wolverines with a hat trick and Lauren Flinchum and Ashley Suess added a goal apiece as the Wolverines (2-1) beat the Hawks (0-2). Justine Perreault had eight saves in her second shutout of the season.


Starpoint 4, Hamburg 3

Nick Dumond (2), Tyler Valentine and Colton Rutland each scored for the Spartans (3-1-1, 2-1 ECIC II) as they downed the Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 ECIC II). Sam Delprince made eight saves in net for the Spartans.


Grand Island 3, North Tonawanda 0

Brock Petreault recorded 16 kills and Mike Peaternostro had three kills and five blocks for the Vikings (1-0) as they downed the Lumberjacks (0-1) in sets of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-19. Victor Wilson contributed with seven kills and Joe Piotrowski added 10 assists for the Lumberjacks.


Lockport 3, Niagara Falls 0

Alyssa Wagner had seven kills and Sara Franco recorded three blocks as the Lions (2-1) defeated the Wolverines (2-1) in sets of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18. Toni Polk had 15 digs for the Wolverines.

North Tonawanda 3, Grand Island 0

Gabby Hanen recorded 14 kills and 10 digs, Leanna Metzger had seven kills and three aces and Kathryn Zgolak added 12 assists as the Lumberjacks (2-1) defeated the Vikings (1-2) in sets of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-16. Jill Sheehan had five aces and six digs, and Shannon Holt chipped in with five kills for the Vikings.

Nia.-Wheatfield 3, Ken East 0

The Falcons (3-1, 3-0 NFL) defeated the Bulldogs (1-2) in sets of 20-25, 14-25 and 16-25. Kelsey Yeates recorded three aces and 18 assists, Katie Mazierski had five kills and Kailie Sonnenberg added eight kills for the Falcons.

Ken West 3, Lew-Port 2

Morgan Boss had 12 assists, five digs and three aces as the Lancers (0-3) fell to the Blue Devils (1-2). Dana Manusco chipped in with six aces, nine digs and 12 kills for the Blue Devils.

Starpoint 3, Lake Shore 1

Hattie Lasal dished 14 assists while Julia Schreier tallied four kills for the Spartans (2-0 ECIC II), who won 25-17, 19-25, 25-15 and 25-17.

Nardin 3, Niagara Catholic 0

Stephanie Male had two digs and six solid serves, TylerLynn Langer had two digs and Stephanie Dembek had a kill for the Patriots (0-3, 0-1 MMA), who fell 25-5, 25-4 and 25-10.


Nia.-Wheatfield 272, Grand Island 286

Kevin Borowicz medalled for the Vikings (1-1 NFL), shooting a 38, while Carson Suffoletta added a 42. N-W improves to 2-1 in league matches.


Nia.-Wheatfield 106, Niagara Falls 70

Sally Rozumalski won the 200- and 500-meter freestyles for the Falcons in an exhibition meet. Jessica Evans won the 100 butterfly for the Wolverines.

Grand Island 127, North Tonawanda 37

In an NFL exhibition, the Vikings’ Kady Liesenfeld won the 200-meter freestyle and the 100 butterfly while contributing to wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Anya Fike took the 100 freestyle for the Lady Jacks.
