Niagara Gazette — Purple Eagles Nation will be going coast to coast on premium television midway through the coming hockey season.

Niagara University’s home game against Rochester Institute of Technology at Dwyer Arena on Friday, January 24 will be televised nationally by the CBS Sports Network, the Atlantic Hockey Association announced Tuesday.

It’s an opportunity that is exciting the defending AHA regular season champions.

“We are excited to have Atlantic Hockey games on national television again this year,” said Niagara head coach Dave Burkholder in a prepared statement. “The league is coming off an outstanding season with many non-conference wins and culminating with two Atlantic teams making the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever. It is a great way to keep the momentum going given this opportunity to showcase our league to the entire country.”

The Niagara-RIT game is the second of two AHA games to be televised by CBS Sports Network this coming season. Earlier in the month, on Jan. 10, the cable network will broadcast Air Force at Army. Earlier this year, the latter team recruited Williamsville native and goaltender Parker Gahagen, who goes to West Point after standing out at Williamsville North High School and later the Buffalo Junior Sabres.

CBS Sports Network is available through local cable providers, including Time Warner in Western New York, and on satellite providers including DirecTV and Dish Network. Verizon FIOS subscribers must own the Ultimate HD package or purchase the service’s “sports package” to have CBS Sports Network. The network offers more information on how and where it is available at www. cbssportsnetwork.com.
