Falcons lose in double overtime

Niagara Gazette — Lockport ninth grader Gretta Dry put an end to Wednesday's double-overtime soccer contest at Niagara-Wheatfield with a goal at the seven-minute mark.

Carly Shamnk sent a through pass to Dry, who beat the outside defender and fired a shot over the goalie's head and into the far corner of the net.

The Lions led 1-0 at halftime on a goal at the 22-minute mark by Lauren Wager, assisted by Jill Golding.

Lockport went up 2-0 at the nine-minute mark of the second half on a goal by Golding, assisted by Dry.

The Falcons (6-2-1 NFL, 7-3-1 overall) cut Lockport's lead in half at the 15-minute mark on a goal by Emily Belote, then with five minutes left in the game, the hosts tied it on a goal by Melissa Smith, assisted by Danielle Chatten.

Lockport keeper Jayme Wadosky made 14 saves to earn the win in goal.

Grand Island 4, Niagara Falls 0

Jennifer Amato, Marcy Barberic, Madisyn Pezzino and Carly Bematovicz each scored to help the Vikings move to 6-1-2 on the season. Meaghan O'Leary made nine saves to earn the shutout while counterpart Malorie Garabedian managed to stop 19 shots for the Wolverines (1-9-1, 0-9-1 NFL).

Lew-Port 1, Ken West 0

Erin Fitzpatrick scored a goal on an Anna Carpenter assist and Erin Kinz earned the shutout on 12 saves as Lew-Port (5-4 NFL) took the league matchup. Hanna Post made 14 saves in net the Blue Devils (3-6 NFL).

Grand Island 4, Niagara Falls 0

Jake Dixon, James Rustowicz, Adam Cummings and Ben Terrington each scored a goal and Justin Figler earned the shutout for the Vikings (8-3, 7-2 NFL).

North Tonawanda 3, Ken East 4

Lorenzo Zaccaria scored twice and Jon Gardner and Pat Schroeder rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece in the Bulldogs (5-6, 5-4 NFL) win. The Lumberjacks fall to 2-9 overall and 2-7 in league play.
