Niagara Gazette — The Niagara Falls City School District held its 24th Annual Fifth and Sixth Grade Elementary Mile Run on Wednesday at Niagara Falls High School.
This year's event, sponsored by Memorial Medical Center, Niagara PAL, Niagara Falls Wolverine cross country and the Niagara Falls teachers, had 196 participants from local middle schools, which is the highest ever, and was highlighted by Matthew Kifer, a sixth grader at 79th Street Elementary, who broke the city record with a time of 5:58.
Valerianne Jacobson (Harry F. Abate Elementary) finished first in the sixth grade girls group, while Austin Stanek (Geraldine J. Mann Elementary) paced the fifth grade boys. Kayle Petri (Maple Avenue Elementary) rounded out the winners, topping the fifth grade girls grouping.
Top ten finishers in each group were as follows:
Sixth grade boys: Kifer, Josh McCoy (Abate), Zachary Meranto (Maple), Michael Ranieri (Maple), Darryl Hill (Niagara Street Elementary), Andrew Merino (Mann), Jacob Mosholder (Maple), Garret Croyle (Maple), Thaddieus Pryor (Maple) and Nathaniel Reilly (Maple).
Sixth grade girls: Jacobson, Shelby Pendola (Niagara), Arianna Welch (79th), Dasiah Ortiz (Maple), Olivia Pitaressi (Henry J. Kalfas Elementary), Ashlynn Myers (Maple), Stephaney Webb (Kalfas), Aalijah Hooks (Niagara), Daria Harris (Niagara) and Deonna Burts (Niagara).
Fifth grade boys: Stanek, Jaemon Turner (Kalfas), Jalen Bradberry (Maple), William McDougald (Niagara), Dominic Basile (Maple), Larente Shelton (Mann), Joey Krebs (Abate), Mason Hilliard (Mann), Joseph Watroba (Maple) and Matthew Cobb (Niagara).
Fifth grade girls: Petri, Emma Veltri (Maple), Jenna Petri (Maple), Ashanti Hilson (Mann), Molly Chiarella (Maple), Angel Hoy (79th), Ragen Amoretti (Cataract Elementary), Ivori McGrigg (Kalfas), Melanie Rott (Abate) and Jennifer Beasock (Niagara).
