Flyers drop two to Blues and Sharks

The Flyers lost their last two games of the Niagara Junior Purple Eagles spring squirt house league regular season, falling to the Blues and the Sharks.

The Blues defeated the Flyers, 9-3, with Carter Heacock scoring five goals for the winners. Thomas Dworak scored twice for the Blues while Luke Staub and Ty Williams added goals. Colby Boyer had two assists. Scoring for the Flyers were Vincent Zak (two goals), Braden Muldoon, Joey Niccola and Connor Gibson.

The Sharks previously defeated the Flyers, 12-5, with Aiden Robins and Nicholas Hess scoring four goals each. Julianne Blase added four assists for the winners.

Scoring for the Flyers were Domenic Burgess (two goals), Braden Muldoon, Vincent Zak and Joey Genovese, the latter of whom got his goal on a penalty shot.

Power Cats wrestlers place at national tourney

Six members of the Power Cats amateur wrestling program placed in the Ohio Tournament of Champions last week in Columbus, Ohio.

Power Cats wrestlers Herman Wooten III and Tommy Crumpler placed third in their respective classes, while Jaden Crumpler placed fifth. Justin McDougald and Gage LaPlante placed seventh in their classes while coach Warren McDougald, who wrestled in the Open Division, placed eighth. 

It was a tournament that drew more than 2,500 wrestlers from throughout the United States.

The Power Cats, who repeated this season as Section VI champions, will host a celebration at their club at 2402 Niagara Street on May 17.
