Niagara Gazette — The Goodfellas Pizzeria Yankees have enjoyed some high-powered offensive outbursts this youth baseball season and were at it again this week, defeating the Cardamone Chiropractic Nationals, 17-1, in the Hyde Park Babe Ruth Baseball Minors Division.
Zach Winker and Eithan Schmal had three hits apiece, while Trevor Kennedy and Tyler Kennedy both hit twice. Tyler Kennedy's hits included a home run.
Anton Gandy got a hit for the Nationals.
The Mackenzie's Automotive Tigers won both games of a shortened doubleheader, defeating the MacLeod's Pharmacy Blue Jays by scores of 4-3 and 5-2. Mason Hillard was the winning pitcher in the first game while Drew Merino got the win in the second matchup. Merino also had three RBIs while Andrew Miller had an RBI for the Tigers as well. For the Blue Jays, Mike Ulrich scored two runs and stole two bases while Matt Kerchenski scored three RBIs.
• The Jocoy's Collision Orioles won both games of a doubleheader, defeating the Stuart Sports Blue Jays. In game one, Andy Devantier and David Wagner combined to pitch three scoreless innings for the Orioles while Ryan Milleville had two hits. The Blue Jays' Nicholas Syposs made some great defensive plays to prevent several extra base opportunities.
In game two, Anthony Lucinski made plays at the mound, behind the plate and with his bat for the Orioles while the Dobrasz duo of Steven and Michael made great catching and fielding plays for the Blue Jays.
• In previous game action, the Jocoy's Collision Orioles squeaked by the David's Home of the Steak Hoagie Pirates, 4-3. Andrew Johnson went 2-2 with a single and a double for the Orioles, while Anthony Lozina pitched two scoreless innings. For the Pirates, Jake Dunstan threw seven strikeouts in three innings of work while Tevin Sanders went 2-2 with three RBIs.
• The Philip Leta DDS Brewers came from behind to defeat the Kendzia Tire Yankees, 7-4. Evan Stickney went 3-3 with a home run. Danny Mayville also homered, while Joseph Reynolds had his first RBI of the season. For the Yankees, Dom Paonessa threw eight strikeouts while Chase Kendzia and Morgan Zientra both hit doubles.
Whirlpool Park Little League Minors
Solid fielding from Teddy Chambers, along with his teammates' hot bats, helped Sottile's Phillies defeat the Quaranto's Yankees. Zach Croyle hit a grand slam, while Chuck Dunn drove in four runs and leadoff hitter Jimmy Terryberry reached base in each of his three at-bats. Yankees southpaw Shawn Petrishin dazzled batters with his windup while also hitting safely for the seventh straight time over two games. Charlie Watroba added two hits for the Yankees.
The Davids Home Of The Steak Hoagey Padres topped the Auto Collision & Glass Red Sox. Tori Bersani led the way with two hits and four RBIs. Olivia Vaccarella had two hits and three RBIs while Mckenzie Gilmore scored three runs for the Padres. For the Red Sox, Jennie Mercilott had three hits and three stolen bases, Kayla Richards had two hits and a stolen base and Angel Hoy had two hits and two RBIs.
Team Niagara level 4, representing Gleason’s Gymnastics, finished in sixth place at its final meet of the season at the 2013 New York State Level 4 State Championship, held in Syracuse.
Piper Reed became the New York State champion on the vault with a 9.825 in the Child C division. Reed also finished third overall with her third-place finish on the bars and sixth-place finish on the beam, giving her an overall score of 37.800.
Kayleigh Kuebler finished sixth in the Junior C division with an all-around score of 37.550. Her performance included a fourth-place finish on the floor, during which she scored 9.400.
Chandler Carr finished eighth in the Junior C division, taking third place on the vault with a score of 9.575. Her overall score was 37.175.
Competing in the Senior A division, Kristen Doohan finished third on the bars with her score of 9.750.
Shawn Daly and Mike Mucci, as the Niagara University team, rallied after losing the first set to defeat the First Niagara team of Les Sniezek & Eric Scheffler in the Les Nassoiy Tennis League. After Sniezek and Scheffler won the first set, 6-4, Daly and Mucci won the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-4.
In other action, BMP America (Rob Udy and Sam Lebold) defeated Niagara Catholic (Will Whisker and Brian Kurtis), 6-2, 6-3.
The Synacor team of Terryl Knack & Matt Bergey were awarded a walkover win.
Dave Cuddahee was this week's leading bowler with a single game high of 284 and a 695 series in the Guido's Upholstery/Joe's Guys Senior Men's League at Rapids Bowling Center. Bob Kafel rolled a 279 as part of his 683 series, while Marco Napolitano rolled a single game 268 as part of his total 666.
