Sabres sign Enroth to two-year extension

Niagara Gazette — The Buffalo Sabres have signed goaltender Jhonas Enroth to a two-year contract extension that keeps him in the roster at a time when they may soon be looking to a new number one netminder.

Enroth had a 2.6 goals-against average and a shutout in going 4-4-2 in 12 games last season, his third in the NHL. Overall, he has a 2.72 goals-against average, three shutouts and a 21-18-10 record in 53 career games.

He also had a solid performance at the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championship this spring, leading Team Sweden to a gold medal. He was named the tournament's best goaltender for a performance that included a shutout of Canada in the semifinals. At the World Championship, Enroth posted a .956 save percentage and a 1.15 goals-against average.

The Stockholm, Sweden native was selected by the Sabres in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, at 46th overall. He was named to the 2011-12 NHL All-Rookie Team after he led all NHL rookie goaltenders in games played with 26 including 22 starts. He also led rookies with 693 saves and 756 shots against.

Enroth was scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer and has the potential to be the team's starter in the near future. Fellow goaltender Ryan Miller has one year remaining on his deal and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.
