Niagara powerlifters win at state tournament

Niagara Gazette — Five members of the Niagara Powerlifting Club won their respective weight divisions at the New York State Powerlifting Championships, held last weekend in Rochester.

Team captain Dan Zahno of Ransomville remains undefeated after winning the 220 open multi-ply division. His combined lifts of 1,675 pounds included a state record squat of 665 pounds, bench press of 430 pounds and deadlift of 580 pounds.

Luke Bright won the 220 open raw division with a total lift of 1,400 pounds, including a state record bench press of 370 pounds.

Paul Emmick of Niagara Falls won the 275 open multi-ply division with a state record squat of 900 pounds and combined total of 2,220 pounds.

Jeff Miller of Barker won the SHW open division in the bench press by lifting 500 pounds.

Marco Vilardo of Niagara Falls won the 16-17 age group in the 198-pound division with state record-setting lifts of a 355-pound squat, a 250-pound bench press and a 485-pound deadlift for a total of 1,090 pounds.
