WNY Flash drops women's soccer opener

Niagara Gazette — PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Western New York Flash opened its Women's Professional Soccer League season at Yurcak Field on Sunday, having won the championships in its three previous leagues and entering its fourth since 2010.

Their hopes to win a fourth straight title got off to the wrong start as Sky Blue FC defeated the Flash, 1-0.  Worse yet, the only score was an "own goal" that occured late in the first half when CoCo Goodson's shot was deflected off the Flash's McCall Zerboni and into WNY's net.

The Flash (0-0-1) next travel to Washington on Saturday.
