Niagara Gazette — Emma Sand's base hit in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed Lily Pollak to score the game-winning run, as the Orangemen defeated the Bulldogs, 15-14, to win the Lewiston girls' minor division softball championship.
After three scoreless innings, the Orangemen built a lead that reached 11-9 heading into the top of the sixth inning. The Bulldogs took the lead in the top of the sixth with a five-run burst, but the eventual champs staged their own rally in the bottom of the inning to come from behind.
The Niagara PAL Bulldogs 16U girls soccer team blanked West Seneca, 6-0, in Buffalo and WNY Travel Soccer action at the West Seneca Sports Complex.
Marina Campbell scored twice for Niagara PAL, while Jessica Thompson, Madison Buchholz, Rachel Bolea and Kaylyn Phillips scored the other goals. Goalkeeper Justine Perrault earned the "clean sheet", aided by strong defensive play by Shannon Martineau and Jenna Gioannini.
