Power lose to Oilers in 10 innings

Niagara Gazette — Casey Gibson’s single brought Lee Grosscup home with the game-winning run in the 10th inning, as the Olean Oilers edged the Niagara Power, 4-3, before 224 fans at Sal Maglie Stadium.

John Chalupa came in relief for the Oilers midway through the bottom of the tenth, after Niagara’s Scott Gillespie got aboard with a base hit and Buddy McCoy walked. He got the next three Power batters out, putting out Jimmy Landes, striking out Benjamin Pickard and leading Perry Rigby to fly out to right field, slamming the door shut on a come-from-behind win.

After the Oilers built a 3-0 in the fourth inning, the Power crept back into the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh and then tying the game the following inning.

McCoy had a hit and scored a run for the Power, as did Pickard. Rigby, Johnny Blue Craig and Alex Lagos had the Power’s RBIs.

Matt Gibbs (0-1) took the loss for Niagara, whose record fell to 11-21 on the season.

The Power and Oilers meet again tonight in Sal Maglie Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
