AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Lannon, Britton win Niagara Frontier invitational

Niagara Gazette — Bob Lannon and Dave Britton emerged as the overall winners in the 66th annual Men's 3-Day Invitational at Niagara Frontier Country Club.

To do it, they needed to edge Kevin Reagan and Pat Parker in a two-hole sudden death playoff.

In other tournament results, Frank Micieli and Don Lonczak were the Flight 1 winners. Jerry Casero and Jerry Casero, Jr. took top honors in Flight 2. Reagan and Parker finished atop Flight 3, while Dennis O'Neil and Dennis O'Neil, Jr. were the leaders in Flight 4. 

Kevin Heffler and Dick Lindamer finished with top honors in Flight 5, while John Stirling and Vic Muto led all contestants in Flight 6.

Hole In One

The club reported that Sam Giancola of Niagara Falls scored an ace on July 5, getting his hole-in-one on the 128-yard third hole, using an 8-iron.

Dave Spacone, Jose Martinez and Mike Guley were identified as witnesses. According to club officials, it was Giancola's second hole-in-one in a three-week span.

Women's Divisions

Shelley Ramseyer was the Wednesday 18-hole league's weekly low gross winner in Flight A with her score of 101. Elizabeth Scherer led Flight B with 109 and Marge Kirsch topped Flight C with 114.

In the Tuesday evening nine-hole league, Becky Orsi led Flight A in this week's "Fours Only" tourney with her score of 28. Jill Spira scored 26 to lead Flight B while Kirsch led Flight C with her score of 32.

Hyde Park Ladies 18-Hole League

Pam Casero led all golfers in Flight A with her score of 71 in this week's Guido's Upholstering Full Handicap tournament. Jean Rosenberg scored an 81 to lead Flight B while May Jowdy led Flight C with her score of 74.

In this week's half-handicap tournament, Carolyn King led Flight A with 31. Maimie Volpe scored a 36 to top Flight B while Marge Chase led Flight C with 33.
