Area Sports: Baseball, soccer, tennis and golf results

Niagara Gazette — The NCCC Jr. Thunderwolves 13U team finished fourth out of 28 teams participating in last weekend’s Darien Lake Tournament Series in Genesee County, going 3-1 for the weekend.

The team opened with a 9-1 win against the Lockport Dawgs. James Filippelli and Mat Carden combined to pitch a two-hitter, tossing eight strikeouts along the way. Carden also hit two doubles while Cam Dabill and Kevin Wojcinski also doubled. Tom Peltier had two hits.

Pat McCann, Nick Clouden and Dabill combined to throw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts in an 8-3 win over the Utica Hurricanes in the Thunderwolves’ second game of the weekend. Carden hit a triple and single while Aiden O’Lay hit twice.

The Thunderwolves next defeated the Ontario Prospects, 7-3. Carden pitched the entire game, allowing just three hits. At the plate, he hit two doubles. James Filippelli had a triple and a double while Cam Sloma added two hits including a double. 

The team finished the weekend with a 4-2 loss to the Erie Outlaws. Filippelli and McCann combined to toss a five-hitter, striking out nine. Sloma and Ethan Burke, Matt Daul, Matt Kifer and Jordan Parks all had key hits, while Sloma added some strong defensive play at center field.


Clarence Travel LeagueLewiston Predators 11U 8, Titans 3

Aidan Ward’s two-run single sparked a five-run rally in the sixth inning for the Predators 11U squad. Vincent Mauro had two hits and scored two runs while Troy Toohey scored two runs. Lucas Eoute hit home three runs. 

Zach Brydges, Nick Carlo, Jacob Niccola and Eoute all had scoreless innings while pitching, as the Predators improved to 16-5 on the season.

Clarence Travel LeagueJr. Purple Eagles 9U 11, Cayuga 9

The Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles staged a five-run sixth inning to come from behind and defeat Cayuga, 11-9, at 93rd Street Park in Niagara Falls.
