Niagara Gazette — PJ Walters, making his Buffalo Bisons debut, five innings of one-run ball to lead the Herd to a 3-2 win over the Rochester Red Wings in front of 8,104 fans Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.
The 29-year-old Walters (1-0) gave up six hits and two walks. He struck out four.
Kevin Pillar provided Walters with all the offense he’d need in the third inning. Ryan Goins and Anthony Gose both singled, bringing up Pillar. With two outs, the 25-year-old worked the count to 3-1 and blasted a pitch over the left field wall off Rochester starter Sean Gilmartin (0-1).
John Stilson gave up one run in two innings for the Herd (37-37), which has now won five of its last six. Ryan Tepera pitched a perfect eighth before Bobby Korecky worked around a hit in the ninth to pick up his ninth save.
The teams close out a five-game series at 7:05 tonight at Coca-Cola Field.
