Niagara Gazette — Raeanne Argy-Tyler will serve as the General Chairperson of the 56th Porter Cup, tournament officials announced Tuesday.
Argy-Tyler, who owns Niagara Falls Coach Lines, has served as the tournament’s Transportation Chair for the past ten years. Tournament officials additionally named Donna Tomkins as Vice Chairperson.
“It’s an honor to serve as General Chair for this prestigious event that has been a big part of our family’s summer since I was a child," said Argy-Tyler in a prepared statement released Tuesday. "It gives local fans the opportunity to watch the best amateur golfers in the world compete at a very high level.”
This year's Porter Cup will take place July 22-26 at Niagara Falls Country Club. Eight golfers will earn a place among the 80-plus competitors next Monday in a local qualifying tournament. Other golfers were invited based on past tournament results or current performance.
Taylor Pendrith is last year's champion. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native shot a total 264 in four rounds, or 16-under, winning the 2013 tournament by five strokes over second-place Tyler Dunlap of Trophy Club, Texas.
