Niagara Gazette — NIAGARA GAZETTE - Officials at Niagara University are remembering former men's basketball head coach Joe Mihalich for his success on the basketball court as well as his leadership outside the arena on the day he was formally introduced as the new men's basketball coach at Hofstra University on Long Island.
Niagara University Athletic Director Tom Crowley was scheduled to meet the media at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to discuss the 'future of the men's basketball program.'
In the meantime, the university has released a written statement addressing Mihalich's departure.
Among those offering written remarks was the university's president, Rev. Joseph Levesque: “I have always believed that Joe was a very good coach on the basketball court but, more importantly, he has been a tremendous coach for our players and students off the court, as a leader, role model and mentor, as evidenced by this year’s Skip Prosser Award. We wish him great success. For the Niagara community, he will always be a Purple Eagle.”
The Niagara Gazette will cover Wednesday afternoon's news conference and will have more on Mihalich's departure from the Purple Eagles in Thursday morning's edition.
