Niagara Gazette — Robert Licata’s second hit of the game brought home the winning run, scored by Aidan Robins, as the J. A. Brundage Drain Doctor Pirates claimed the Whirlpool Little League minor division championship with their 10-9 win over Sottile’s Phillies.

Ryan Chenaille had two hits and three RBIs and also played strong defense, while Matthew Ceccato’s two hits included a triple. Also for the Pirates, Anthony Greig and Dom Hickok scored two runs apiece.

For the Phillies, Jimmy Terryberry had two hits.

Others on the championship Pirates roster are: Jude Lowry, Ciaran Destino, Lyndi Lowry, Yazzie Sarkees, Chelsea Kuhns, Dom Churakos, and Tommy Tower.

• The Cayuga 18U Big League baseball squad went 1-1 in games within the past week, including a 15-6 win over the Tonawanda Rebels. Steven Conklin led Cayuga, going 4 for 4 and scoring three runs. He was also the winning pitcher, striking out 11 batters in a complete game. Chris Schieder went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, while Anthony Forcucci had two hits while scoring three runs. Patrick Custode scored two runs.

Cayuga also took an 8-3 loss to Grand Island. John McGinty led the victors with a two-run homer that brought home the winning run. For Cayuga, Anthony Forcucci and Kyle Chandler both went 2 for 3, with Forcucci hitting a pair of doubles. Brad Robinson, Jason Weatherby and Chandler all doubled for Cayuga, while McGinty also doubled for Grand Island. A disputed late game three-run homer sealed the win for Grand Island.

• Antwain Gandy doubled and had three RBIs as the Cardamone Chiropractic Nationals defeated the Felicetti Concrete Products A’s, 15-1, in Hyde Park Babe Ruth minor baseball action. Amarius Ezell had two hits for the Nationals. Gandy and Lewis Tazak combined to strike out 11 batters and allow just one hit. For the A’s, Brandon Groce had a hit and RBI.

• Also in the Hyde Park minors, J.J. Brady, Riley Cardanelli and Tony Velez combined to allow just five hits as the VFW Post 917 Red Sox defeated the Goodfellas Pizzeria Yankees, 15-9. Brady also had two hits and five RBIs. Velez, Noah Licht, Pat Keiper and Christian Lewis all had two hits for the Red Sox. For the Yankees, Tyler Kennedy had two hits and three RBIs while Jason Winstanley’s lone hit brought two runs home.

• In Greater Niagara Seniors play, the Carpet Mill Outlet Niagara Rays defeated the Cambria Cubs. Andrew Porter hit a double and triple, while Dominic Senese and Peter Luero also had hits. Winning pitcher Billy Jasper pitched five innings, striking out 10 batters.

SOFTBALL

Health System Services racked up the hits in their 19-1 win over Zuccari Brothers in Town of Wheatfield Men’s B softball. John Grace went 4 for 4, while Jim Drabczyk went 3 for 3 for the winners. Also for Health System Services, Dan Wirth and Joe Gizzarelli both went 3 for 4. For Zuccari Brothers, Jeff Morin went 2 for 2, including a home run.

GOLF

• Linda Schreiber shot a 70 to claim the President’s Cup in Hyde Park Ladies golf. Finishing second was Shirley Wisniewski, who scored a 75, followed by Elaine McLanaghan with a score of 77.

• Darlene Adams shot a 70 to take top honors in Flight A of the Odd or Even / Half Handicap tournament in the Hyde Park Ladies 18-Hole league. Adams also led Flight A in low putts with 29. Rosalie Ponzi’s score of 59 led Flight B while Marion Doktor scored a 75 to take top honors in Flight C. Nadia Condino (28) and Henrietta Ingham (30) led Flights B and C, respectively, in low putts. The weekly tournament winners were Pam Casero (Flight A, 40), Mary Ann Storr (Flight B, 33) and Carol Lindelow (Flight C, 41).

• In Medal Play at Hyde Park, Gerry Julius took top honors in Flight A with her score of 37, followed by Anne Kist and Marg Hokanson who both scored 42. Kist won the tie-breaker on Hole 4. In Flight B, Shirley Wisniewski was the leader with 35 while Elaine McLanaghan finished second with her score of 36, followed by Dorothy Gara who shot a 37. Nancy Linton led Flight C with her score of 37, followed by Eileen Giraffa at 41 and Marie Briganti with her score of 42. Mary Lostracco won top honors in Flight D with her score of 57, followed by Barbara Joyce with her score of 58.
