Bisons rally to beat Braves, 4-3

Niagara Gazette — staff reports

The Buffalo Bisons spotted the host Gwinnett Braves a three-run lead in the first inning then chipped away to win the game, 4-3, at Coolray Park in Lawrenceville, Ga.

The Braves’ early lead was helped by the Bisons’ three errors in the bottom of the first.

Leading the Bisons comeback was the effort of Kevin Pillar, who was called up to the Triple-A team last week and was appearing in just his sixth game for Buffalo. Pillar hit four doubles in the game, which the Bisons reported was a first in their modern-era history, which set him up to score the game-tying and game-winning runs.

Ryan Goins hit the double that brought Pillar and Sean Ochinko home to even the score at 3-3 in the fifth inning. The go-ahead run came in the eighth inning when Pillar reached second on his own hit then advanced to third on a Goins grounder. A wild pitch by Braves pitcher Wirfin Obispo allowed Pillar to then score the go-ahead run.

Thad Weber allowed three hits in the first inning and overcame his teammates’ errors to get the win. When he was finished, he allowed a total of four hits in seven innings pitched, striking out five batters along the way, to improve his record to 3-1. Joel Carreno was awarded the hold while Brad Lincoln picked up his third save of the season. Obispo (1-3) took the loss for Gwinnett.

The teams will play again tonight, with the first pitch at 6:05.
