Niagara Gazette — Boy did I goof.
The first-ever Women's Porter Cup was played last week where the men's long-running version of the event will again take place next month, at Niagara Falls Country Club.
Yet on Saturday, as part of our coverage of the final round, we inadvertently identified the venue as Niagara Frontier Country Club.
Both golf clubs are great venues. However, I'll explain where and how I made my mental double bogey. Niagara Frontier C.C. has a personal connection. It is where my parents were members for a brief period until my father's passing in 2009. On several occasions, I was their guest and enjoyed several rounds of golf there. I still keep the scorecard from what was my final round with my father framed in my office.
Last week, as I was frantically typing away to meet a fast-approaching deadline, my fingers and perhaps "force of habit" from that previous connection were working a little faster than my eyes and mind.
Most times the method to fix an error is simply running a paragraph or two revealing the error and making the correction. For a story like this, however, I feel it's important to take full responsibility and express my regrets for this careless though inadvertent mistake.
I won't go as far as to write "Niagara Falls Country Club" 100 times on the chalkboard, but I will see to it we do not make this mistake at next month's Porter Cup and beyond.
