Niagara Gazette — The NWAA Wildcats overcame both miserable weather and the Lew-Port Spartans, winning 39-14 last weekend to win their “Super Bowl” championship game in the 145-pound division of the Niagara Youth Football League.
With the win, the Wildcats finished the season at 10-0.
Alexi Fauzey scored on a 60-yard touchdown run while Jack Mazzarra ran 57 yards for six points. Stephen Roulley also had a lengthy touchdown run, scoring from 42 yards out, while Jacob Shumacker scored on a four-yard run. Mike Ziegler scored for the Wildcats on a 40-yard punt return.
On defense, Max Mosher led the Wildcats with nine tackles, while Alex Padilla chipped in with eight tackles. Fauzey had seven tackles and an interception. Roulley had seven tackles, while Ziegler had four tackles and an interception. Nick Weir recovered a fumble and had three tackles while Garret Charneley had five tackles and a sack.
The Wildcats conceded only 50 points for the entire season.
• Donovan Brusino scored four goals to lead the Goodfellas Pizzeria Rockets over the Stepping Stone Therapeutics Americans, 7-5, in the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles Hockey House PeeWee league. Josh Seider had one goal and three assists, while Jackson Connor and Adam Burns had the Rockets’ other goals. Jeffrey Hyde had a hat trick for the Americans, while Andrew Martin and Jacob Stine also had goals.
• Also in the NJPE House PeeWee league, Austin Durandetto and Joe Zachary scored for the 5 Star Roofing Lightning in their 2-2 tie with the MacKenzie’s Automotive Fighting Irish. Riley McKenzie and Alex Laschinger scored for the Irish.
• Jake Halleen had a hat trick to lead Halleen’s Blackhawks to a 6-3 win over the Rustaway Sharks. Tyler Bush had a goal and two assists. The Blackhawks’ other goal scorers were Matt Miller and James Worrall. Joshua Beiter scored twice for the Sharks while Tanner Reisman had the team’s other goal.
