Schug heading to Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame

Alan Schug will be inducted to the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Schug was born in Niagara Falls in 1944, raised on South Avenue and Pierce Avenue, schooled at Bishop Duffy and employed at Kimberly Clark in the early ‘60s.

He was a starter on the Bishop Duffy basketball team that won the Catholic League Manhattan Cup in Buffalo’s Memorial Auditorium in ‘62. Following graduation from Duffy he starred for the Niagara County Community College basketball team along with fellow NFSHOF member Ron Bator. Schug was MVP for two years as he averaged 23.4 points per game and was named a Junior College All-American honorable mention.

Niagara University honored Schug with a basketball scholarship for the ‘66-’67 and ‘67-’68 seasons. He averaged 11 points in his junior year and six in his senior year while dishing to NU great Calvin Murphy.
