Niagara hockey's Beattie turning pro with Amerks

Niagara Gazette — Jason Beattie, who recently finished his senior season with Niagara University men's hockey, has signed a contract with the Rochester Americans, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres.

A Niagara University athletic department official confirmed the signing late Friday evening.

Beattie, a 6-feet-3 native of Newmarket, Ont., reportedly may be inserted into the Amerks lineup as early as tonight, when Rochester plays on the road against the Adirondack Phantoms.

As a Purple Eagle, Beattie was named to the College Hockey America All-Rookie team in 2009-10 and was named to the Atlantic Hockey Association's All-Academic team in 2010-11 and 2011-12. 

Beattie appeared in 25 games for Niagara in 2012-13, scoring three goals and four assists.
