Local College Roundup: Games Played April

Niagara Gazette — NCCC sweeps ECC

The Niagara County Community College softball team earned dominating two-game sweep of Erie Community College on Thursday, winning both games by mercy rule in the fifth inning.

In game one, Ella Cswaykus hits a game-ending home run in the fifth to clinch a 10-2 win. Charlene Cinelli went 2 for 3 with two steals and two RBIs, while Kelly Bourque (Nia.-Wheatfield) earned the win in the circle, throwing a four-hitter with three strikeouts.

In the second game, Sarah Tweed (Niagara Falls) went 2 for 3 with a three-run home run and five RBIs, while Breanna Noworyta (Niagara Falls) was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored as NCCC won 16-8.

The Thunderwolves (4-2) play another doubleheader this Saturday at Broome Community College.

BASEBALL

In game one of the doubleheader, freshman Andrew Dewitt (Niagara Falls) pitched four innings of relief, striking out five while giving up only one earned run. Russell McGibbon and Mike Elwood each had two hits, while Tyler Tubinis (Lewiston) had an RBI single.

In the second game, Elwood pitched five inning in the start and struck out six for the no decision. Cam Hall earned the win, striking out three in two scoreless innings in relief. John Knauth and Chris Fitzgerald each had an RBI, while Anthony Schiro (Nia.-Wheatfield) had two hits for the Thunderwolves (11-11, 1-1 Region III).

Canisius 14, Cornell 5

Chris Gruarin (Niagara Falls) went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two steals for the Golden Griffins (20-7). Mike Tolsma (Tonawanda) earned his first win as a Griff, pitching one scoreless inning.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Catonsville 14, NCCC 6

Ian Tomczak scored half of the goals for the Thunderwolves in a tough 14-6 loss. Zachary Wheeler had 16 saves in net.
