Area icers to play in Bowman Cup

Niagara Gazette — Several local players are among the Buffalo region all-stars who will compete in the ninth annual Bowman Cup hockey showcase, hosted by the Buffalo Sabres, on Monday, April 15 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.

The series features three games featuring Buffalo-area players skating against Rochester-area players.  The teams are composed of high school juniors, high school seniors and players who skated with junior or prep school teams, respectively.

Named to the high school junior roster for Team Buffalo were forward Anthony Vekich (Niagara—Wheatfield) and goaltender Tyler Shotwell (Lew—Port).

Among those chosen to play with Team Buffalo’s high school seniors were forward Rick Eberhart (Lockport) and defensemen Ty Gallagher (Grand Island) and Matt Peters (Niagara—Wheatfield).

Hockey Hall of Famer and former Buffalo Sabres coach and general manager Scotty Bowman, for whom the showcase is named, will present the Bowman Cup to the winning high school senior squad.  Team Rochester is the defending champion in that age group.

The hockey showcase begins at 6:30 p.m.
