NW overwhelmed by St. Joe's in Fed showdown

Niagara Gazette — BUFFALO — Mike Parisi scored a goal in the third period, but that was the only positive for Niagara Wheatfield in a 5-1 loss to St. Joe's Sunday afternoon at Buffalo State's Ice Arena.

The Marauders went up early on a goal from Kyle Moslow at the 13:17 mark of the first period and they never looked back.

N-W coach Rich Wrazin said his team has had a habit of starting slow and that trend continues against the Marauders.

"We took a little while to get used to the physical play and we didn't really get on our game until the third period," he said. "They're a real good hockey team and credit them for getting us off our game, but as a team we need to be prepared and not let teams do that to us."

The loss was the second of the season against St. Joe's for NW, who dropped a 3-0 game in December.

St. Joe's captain Eric Paradowski scored two goals and his line mate, Dominic Perna added another on a spinning wrister in from the right circle to beat N-W's Nate Sommers midway through the second period.

Marauders coach Rick Crozier felt his team outworked the Falcons.

"I tell the boys all the time and this is what we live by: no one outworks us, no one," he said. said. "Most important thing we have to ask ourself at the end of every game is were we the hardest working team. No offense to Niagara-Wheatfield, they're a very skilled team, but we outworked them today."

Wrazin thinks his team can play with St. Joe's, but it must be more consistent and give a better effort for all three periods.

"I think we're very capable of playing with them but we have to play for three periods," he said. "Looking back at the game we had some moments on offense where we looked good, but they've given up the fewest goals in the league. We had some good opportunities but we weren't as good in our end as we could have been, and we have to be better at moving pucks out of our zone."
