Lakewomen take first place in N-O soccer

Niagara Gazette — Malroie Gagnon scored three minutes into the first overtime period and Holly Rudolph added a goal five minutes into the second period of extra time to give the Wilson girls soccer team a 2-0 win over Akron and sole possession of first place in the Niagara-Orleans League.

Grace Adams earned her ninth shutout of the season in net with 10 saves and earned an assist on Rudolph’s goal. Hannah Johnson, Jamie Curry and Angela Goodman all played outstanding defense in the win.

Wilson improves to 11-1-1 overall and 9-1-1 in league on the season.

Niagara Catholic 2, Immaculata 0

Marina Campbell and Gina Franjoine both scored and Hannah Reilly played strong defense for the Patriots (5-3 MMAA).

Iroquois 2, Starpoint 1

Veronica Bellardini scored her sixth goal of the season for the Spartans (5-6-1).

Tonawanda 6,

Lackawanna 0

Paula Pinkert, Jessica Bowser, Kalyn Compeau, Alex Moore, Megan Tuskes and Meghan Thomas all scored for the Warriors (8-4, 6-2 ECIC IV).


Lackawanna 5, Tonawanda 3

Nate Holler scored two goals and Jake Choate added another, but it wasn’t enough for the Warriors (6-4-1, 4-2-1 ECIC IV).

Dan Joseph had eight kills and Brett Kane had 12 assists for the Spartans (6-7, 4-4 ECIC II) in the 26-24, 25-16, 25-20 league win.


Nia.-Wheatfield 3,

Ken East 0

Katie Mazierski had 19 kills and seven digs, Bailey Salemi had 10 kills and Rachel Coddington had four kills and one block for the Falcons (7-4, 7-3 NFL) in their 31-29, 25-13, 25-16 win over Kenmore East (1-10, 1-9 NFL).

Niagara Catholic 1

Shannon Lawson had 12 kills, 10 aces, 17 digs and three assists to lead the Patriots (4-7, 2-7 MMAA) in the 25-15, 19-25, 21-25, 30-32 loss. Jessica Chandler added nine kills, five digs and three blocks and Marissa Ruffolo had two kills, six blocks, four digs and an ace.

Grand Island 272

Mike Davern medalled for the Bulldogs (13-1 NFL), shooting a 1-under 35 at River Oaks. Adam Kroll added a 38 and Ricky Shotwell had a 40 in the win. Tom Corrao led Grand Island (7-7) with a 40, and Kevin Borowicz added a 41.

Nia.-Wheatfield 246, Lockport 256

Jeff Janese shot a 39 at Tan Tara to medal for the Falcons (11-3 NFL). Zach Dubuc and John Liberti shot 40s in the win, while J.J. Napoli led the Lions (11-3) with a 41.

Niagara Falls 1

Pairings of Liana Buscaglia and Emilie-Jo Scheffler and Ruby Kaur and Alex Filips swept doubles for the Vikings (9-4 NFL). Isabel Eligino picked up the only win for Niagara Falls (4-8) in first singles.

Lew-Port 3, Ken West 2

On Senior Night, 12th-grader Dionna Moon won third singles and classmates Sara Cattarin and Gabe Porto won first doubles for the Lancers (5-8 NFL). Haley Diamond and Audrey Filey won extended singles matches for the Blue Devils (4-9).

Nia.-Wheatfield 5,

Ken East 0

Liz Barrett, Bri Fiorita and Karyn Kalita swept singles for the Falcons (12-0 NFL), who didn’t lost a set.

Lockport 3, North Tonawanda 2

Delaney Portka won third singles for the Lions (11-1 NFL). Gretchen Ringler and Jessica Robbins won first and second singles to lead the Lady Jacks (4-8).
