Bisons return home, defeat Braves

Niagara Gazette — The Buffalo Bisons returned home Monday to begin an eight-day home stand and got off to a winning start, with a 5-4 victory over the Gwinnett Braves at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo.

Buffalo native Jim Negrych led his hometown team's nine-hit performance, hitting twice and driving home what proved to be the game-winning RBI.

Buffalo built a 3-2 lead by the third inning then increased it to 5-2 heading into the ninth, with Andy LaRoche hitting a solo shot for the Bisons in the sixth inning. The Braves managed two runs in the top of the ninth but John Stilton picked up the save to keep the Herd victorious.

Todd Redmond (2-1) got the win for Buffalo on the mound while Gwinnett's Omar Poveda (5-4) took the loss.

The same two teams play again Tuesday evening at Coca-Cola Field with the opening pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. on the team's scheduled Irish Festival Night.
