Niagara Gazette — The sun finally broke through the clouds at Niagara Frontier Country Club in Lewiston on Friday. Even if they didn't, the eventual champion of the first-ever Women's Porter Cup looked like walking sunshine dressed to toe in the orange of her alma mater, Oklahoma State University.
Casie Cathrea, the Livermore, Calif. native who ended Wednesday's first round as the tournament's leader, shot a 73 on Friday that was not the lowest score of the round but, combined with her score of 65 on Wednesday, was good enough to clinch the Cup with an overall total of 138.
Finishing second overall in the tournament was Prima Thammaraks of Bangkok, Thailand, who shot a 69 on Wednesday and then followed up with a 72 on Friday, finished at 141, three strokes behind Cathrea.
Three golfers shared third place: Laura Wearn (Charlotte, NC), Samantha Troyanovich (Grosse Pointe Shores, MI) and Krista Puisite (Riga, Latvia) with two-day totals of 143.
Among the local golfers, Buffalo's Rene Sobolewski finished the highest at 17th place, shooting scores of 75 and 77 for a two-round total of 152.
