Niagara Gazette Player of the Year: Boys Track & Field

Niagara Gazette —

SCHOOL: Grand Island

YEAR: Junior

EVENT: 110 hurdles

THE SCOOP: Broke a decade-old school record, running a Section VI-best 14.3. ... Ran back-to-back 14.82s at the sectional championship, claiming the title by 0.22 seconds. ... Ran a 15.06 at states, good for eighth overall. ... Finished 13th in the state in the 55-meter hurdles during the indoor season, running a 7.99.

"Kevin's a natural athlete. He's got insanely flexible hips which allows him to go over the hurdle without having to really jump. He can just step over them. His hurdle form is very, very good, and the only thing he has to work on is his speed. If he can get faster, he has a real chance to make some noise at states." — GI coach Craig Davis
