Niagara Gazette — Spring break is treating Niagara Falls baseball well.
The Wolverines escaped the snow and ice back home Tuesday and snuck in a pair of wins as they participate in the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., defeating fellow Western New Yorkers Gowanda, 6-1, before shutting out Camden (Syracuse area) 5-0 on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, winning pitcher Justin Beyer tossed six innings of six-hit ball with an earned run. Chris Cardona went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored while Mike Colosi has a pair of RBIs.
Pitcher Jake Martineau stole the show Wednesday with his complete-game shutout, allowing six hits with four strikeouts. Colosi again paced the Wolverine offense, going 3 for 4 with a double and RBI while Mike Gabriele also had a pair of RBIs. Joey D'Angelo added a pair of hits in the win.
The Wolverines are 2-1 on the trip. They await their next foe in a round robin format. A win means they'll have the chance to play for the tournament championship later this week.
