Niagara Gazette — Niagara University right fielder Anthony Firenzi was honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as its Player of the Week to mark his performances against St. Bonaventure and Fairfield last week.
Against the Bonnies, Firenzi went 2-for-3 in both games of a doubleheader, collecting an RBI in the second game. He also picked up a pair of hits against Fairfield that extended his current hitting streak to 17 games.
Overall, Firenzi hit .526 in five games, going 10-for-19.

Women’s lacrosse hosts Siena today
The Purple Eagles will play host to a MAAC matchup this afternoon at 3 p.m., when they host Siena at Niagara Field.
Niagara is currently 1-3 in the MAAC and 5-7 overall. Siena is also 1-3 in the conference and 3-10 overall.
Carrie-Jo Farrugia leads the Purple Eagles in scoring with a career-high 36 points, including a career-high 26 goals.

Former NU player turned coach signs soccer deal
Former standout soccer player Rene De Zorzi, who now serves as a volunteer coach for the men’s team, has signed a playing deal for the summer.
De Zorzi will play with the Kitsap Pumas, based in Bremerton, Wash. and a member of the USL Premier Development League.
De Zorzi, who played 79 games for Niagara, was named the MAAC’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and led the Purple Eagles defense to its first conference title and NCAA tournament appearance.
The Pumas open their PDL season on May 11 against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
