Niagara Gazette — staff report
Three area high school football players were named the 2013 season winners of the Holka Insurance Maximum Effort Award.
Joshua Belin of Niagara Falls, Dan Hogan of Lew-Port and Mitchell Pittman of Niagara-Wheatfield are the latest honorees of the award, which was first presented in 1988.
The three are recognized as “hard workers, having positive attitudes, never giving up in tough situations, and inspirational leaders to their teammates, leading by example,” in a statement by Holka Insurance.
Since the establishment of the award, one player is honored each year from Lew-Port, Niagara Falls and Niagara-Wheatfield. The award has also honored Niagara Catholic football players during the years when the school had a team competing in Monsignor Martin.
