Niagara Gazette — Tom Crowley, who left as athletic director at Niagara University less than a year after taking the job, has found new employment in college sports. HE will begin his new role on Monday as special assistant to the commissioner in the Horizon League, a college conference whose members are based in the midwest.
Crowley will oversee the day-to-day operations of men’s basketball, according to the Horizon League’s official announcement, issued late Thursday. In addition to working with the conference’s schools and game officials, Crowley will help administer the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Making up the Horizon League are Cleveland State, the University of Detroit Mercy, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Oakland University, Valparaiso University, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wright State University and Youngstown State University.
Crowley joined Niagara as its athletic director in October 2012 but then left in September of this year. The university did not offer a detailed explanation, saying only that it was based on philosophical differences.
In the meantime, there remains no rigid timeframe for hiring a replacement. Stephen Butler has been serving as Niagara’s interim AD since Crowley’s departure.
