NU men's soccer beats Cornell

Niagara Gazette — Ken Cooper’s goal in the second half was the only one scored, the Niagara University defeated Cornell University at Niagara Field, 1-0, in the Purple Eagles’ final non-conference game of their 2013 schedule.

The go-ahead goal came in the 47th minute. Cooper took a long pass from Callum Willmott and found himself on a partial breakaway. The senior then chipped a shot past the Cornell goalkeeper from just outside the six-yard box. It was his first goal of the season.

Niagara held Cornell (6-1-2) to just three shots in the game, all of them in the second half.

It was the Big Red’s first loss of the season.

The Purple Eagles (2-6-0) return to action next Saturday, October 5 at 2 p.m. when they host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rivals St. Peter’s.
