LOCAL BASKETBALL: Ganschow wins for St. Paul II at the buzzer

Niagara Gazette — Ben Ganschow led St. Paul II to a 54-52 win over Community Bible in the first week of the playoffs in the Lutheran Basketball Association, scoring 31 points including the game-winning jumper at the final buzzer.

Ganschow’s scoring included six 3-pointers. Teammate Kiel Davignon added 16 points.

Kyle Seabert led Community Bible with 19 points while Jeff Klumpp added 14 more.

St. Matthew/St. John 59, St. James 52

St. Matthew/St. John won its first game in the playoffs, defeating St. James, 59-52. Josh Kroening led the winners with 24 points. Dan Weiss chipped in 12 points while Justin Hromowyk added ten more the winners.

Alex Burger led St. James in scoring with 13 points. Justin DeVantier tossed in 12 points while and Stefan Marzahl added 11 for St. James. 

St. Peter’s Sanborn 61, St. Paul I 46

Matthew Kroening led St. Peter’s Sanborn to a playoff victory with his 14 points. His brother, Tyler Kroening, chipped in 13 points. Also scoring 13 points for the winners was Cody Longwell, while Grant Haseley added 11 points.

James Zeitz topped St. Paul I with 21 points while Dan Wilczek added 13 points.

St. Mark 68, Holy Ghost 54

St. Mark earned a playoff win with Steven Fretthold leading the team with his 19-point performance. Andrew Davis scored 15 points for the winners, while Kevin Fretthold scored 13 points, including six from the free-throw line. Joe Curry added 11 points.

Ted Klettke led Holy Ghost with 19 points. Josh Klettke added 15 points while Shane Marsh had 11.
