Area Sports: St. Matthew/St. John, St. Mark win in Lutheran hoops

Niagara Gazette — Josh Kroening’s 19 points led St. Matthew/St. John in their 61-54 overtime win against St. Peter’s Sanborn in the Lutheran Basketball Association. Mike Fretthold chipped in with 18 points while Dan Weiss added 14 points for the winners.

Matthew Kroening led St. Peter’s Sanborn with 21 points while teammates Cody Longwell and Grant Haseley added 13 points each.

The win clinched the South Division regular season title for St. Matthew/St. John, with the team finishing with a 14-3 record. 

St. Mark 62, Community Bible 36

Andrew Fretthold led St. Mark with 15 points while Andrew Davis added a dozen more.

Scott Smith scored 10 points to lead Community Bible. In spite of the loss, Community Bible finished the regular season in first place in the North Division with a 10-7 record.

Playoffs begin next week.

Standings

North Division — Community Bible 10-7, St. Peter’s Sanborn 9-8, Holy Ghost 8-9, St. James 6-11.

South Division — St. Matthew/St. John 14-3, St. Mark 13-4, St. Paul I 8-9, St. Paul II 0-17.
