Niagara Gazette — Pitchers Ricky Romero and Marcus Stroman were assigned by the Toronto Blue Jays to their minor league camp, the team announced on Wednesday.
Romero, who has 51 career wins in the Major Leagues, spent most of the 2013 season with the Buffalo Bisons, with whom he went 5-8 and posted a 7.58 ERA in 22 starts. He had the third most strikeouts for the Herd, fanning 81 batters in 113 2/3 innings. He also appeared in four games with the Blue Jays, going 0-2.
Stroman, who is ranked the Blue Jays organization’s #2 prospect by Baseball America, was Toronto’s first-round pick in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Last year with the Class AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Stroman went 9-5 with a 3.30 ERA in 20 games, striking out 129 batters in 112 2/3 innings of work. He set a team record for the Fisher Cats, striking out 13 batters in a game twice.
The Bisons, who are 4-1 in preseason play but have had two straight games rained out, are scheduled to face the Indianapolis Indians today in Dunedin, Florida.
