Junior Sabres advance in OJHL playoffs

Niagara Gazette — The Buffalo Junior Sabres advanced to the second round of the Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs with a 6-4 win Monday night on the road against the Mississauga Chargers, taking the series in six games.

Buffalo's next best-of-seven series begins Friday at 5 p.m. at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, where they will take on the Georgetown Raiders. The Raiders advanced thanks to a four-game sweep of the Milton Icehawks.

The remainder of the second-round playoff schedule was to be announced within the next day or two.

The Jr. Sabres, coached by former Buffalo Sabres captain Michael Peca, features a lineup of mostly Western New York players, seven of whom have committed to NCAA Division I programs including Niagara (Dennis Gilbert, beginning 2015) and Canisius College (Ryan Schmelzer and Nolan Sheeran, 2014, and Daniel LaFontaine, 2015).
