Niagara Gazette — NU baseball ends tourney with loss

Niagara University baseball ended its run in the Philly Big Five tournament in Philadelphia with a 6-5 loss to Villanova on Sunday morning.

After jumping out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, Villanova (4-10) tied the game with a three-run third inning. They scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth.

Michael Fuhrman hit a solo home run and added another RBI for Niagara (4-10). Greg Rodgers drove home two runs with one hit for the Purple Eagles.

Starting Niagara pitcher Drew Fittry gave up the runs to Villanova but held them scoreless in the other five innings he pitched, striking out five along the way.

Niagara next travels to Boston for a three-game weekend series against Northeastern beginning this Friday.
