St. Matthew/St. John wins Lutheran hoops shootout

Niagara Gazette — Mike Fretthold netted 34 points to lead St. Matthew/St. John in a high-scoring Lutheran Basketball Association matchup against St. Paul II, with St. Matthew/St. John winning the game by 104-70.

Also having a big game for the winners was Mike Ridge, who scored 32 points. Teammates Josh Kroening and Justin Hromowyk added 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Leading St. Paul II in scoring was Ben Ganschow, who had 20 points. Jesse Puscheck added 18 points. Kiel Davidson had 15 points while teammate Micah Puscheck scored 13 points for St. Paul II.

• In other Lutheran Basketball Association games, Andrew Davis and Kevin Fretthold scored 15 points apiece to lead St. Mark’s to a 64-47 win over Holy Ghost. Mike Hromowyk scored ten points for St. Mark’s, while Justin Snell and Ted Klettke had 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Holy Ghost.

• Matthew Kroening scored 20 points to lead St. Peter’s of Sanborn to a 60-52 win over St. James. Grant Haseley added 10 points for the winners. Stefan Marzahl scored 15 points for St. James while teammate Anthony Galvano added 13 more.

• Joel Feagin scored 15 points to lead Community Bible in its 53-49 win over St. Paul I. Anthony Ardino added a dozen points for Community Bible. Leading St. Paul I in scoring was James Zeitz with 16 points, while Dan Smith added 10 points.

• Zeitz scored 22 points to lead St. Paul I to a 50-25 win over Holy Ghost in the league’s recent Christmas Tournament. Teammate Dan Wilczek added 14 points to the winning side. Ted Klettke led Holy Ghost with 10 points.

• Josh Kroening hit eight 3-pointers and scored a total 32 points to lead St. Matthew/St. John to a 90-73 win over St. Paul II. Mike Fretthold scored 26 points for the winners while Kiel Davigion netted 21 points for St. Paul II.

• Kevin Fretthold’s 23 points led St. Mark over Community Bible, 62-48. Andrew Davis added 18 points for St. Mark while Joel Feagin led Community Bible with 22 points.

• Anthony Galvano scored 17 points while Justin Devantier added a dozen as St. James defeated St. Peter’s of Sanborn, 62-56. The Haseley brothers, Shawn and Grant, led St. Peter’s with 14 points and 12 points, respectively. Teammate Tyler Kroening also scored a dozen for St. Peter’s.
