Siena tops NU men's hoops

Niagara Gazette — Niagara University led for large portions of the game but in the end fell to the host Siena Saints, 66-62, Thursday night.

The loss drops Niagara's record to 6-16 overall and 3-8 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The Purple Eagles had built their lead to as high as 41-35 with 11:22 remaining in the second half but the host Saints (10-12 overall, 6-5 MAAC) erased that lead and then kept pace with their guests.

It was a relatively quiet night for Antoine Mason, who scored only 18 points and missed a would-be three-pointer with four seconds remaining. Mason shared the lead in team scoring in the game with Marcus Ware, the latter of whom also grabbed four rebounds.

Rayvon Harris added 11 points and led the team in rebounds with seven.

Rob Poole led the Saints with 15 points, while teammates Marquis Wright and Evan Hymes scored a dozen points each.

The Purple Eagles will remain on the road and face Marist on Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m., in a game that can be seen online at ESPN 3.
