Niagara blanks Army

Niagara Gazette —

Five different players scored for the Niagara men's hockey team Friday in a 5-0 win over Army at West Point.

The Purple Eagles (5-2-3, 4-0-0 Atlantic Hockey) have not allowed a goal in their last three contests and are now on a six-game unbeaten streak during which they have outscored opponents 22-7.

Carsen Chubak made 27 saves in his fourth shutout of the season. The junior bakcstop has not allowed a goal in his last 199 minutes of play.

Issac Kohls led the Niagara offense with a goal and two assists. Matt Williams, Chris Lochner, Ryan Rashid and Marc Zanette also scored.

"Army was coming off a week off and they were flat in the first. We did a great job capitalizing and pounced on them early," Niagara coach Dave Burkholder said. "They definitely got better as the game wore on and the last 40 minutes was an even game. It's a great road win and we made the best of our chances."

The two teams play again at 7:05 tonight. The game will be televised on Time Warner Cable channel 87 and will be replayed at 3:30 p.m. Monday on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Nick Melligan (Starpoint) had the lone goal for Buff State (2-3-1, 1-2-1 SUNYAC).

"We just played five games in seven days and today was by far the hardest victory," coach Bill Beilein said. "It feels good to come up with the victory and we were rewarded for the hard work."
