Niagara Gazette — The Starpoint girls basketball team, coming off a heart-stopping triple overtime win over Kenmore East last week, had another nail-biting finish in Tuesday night's game against Williamsville South.
Unfortunately for the Spartans, ranked No. 2 in the Class A-1 Sectionals, it was the No. 3 Billies who emerged the winners, overcoming an early 10-4 deficit to defeat Starpoint, 42-41.
Starpoint's six-point lead was cut down to just a three-point margin at halftime, with the Billies outscoring the Spartans 14-11 in the second quarter.
They also won the next two quarters, both by just two points. In the end, it was good enough to bring a finish to the Spartans' season.
Jenna Faulkner led the Spartans (13-4) in scoring with 12 points including two 3-point baskets. Karen Kreppenneck also hit twice from 3-point range, finishing with eight points in the game.
Leading Williamsville South was Emily Smith, who scored 16 points, twice the number than the next-leading scorer, Zaria McCollough.
With the win, Williamsville South advances to the A-1 final at Buffalo State College on Sunday.
