Both local teams taking part in girls basketball prequarterfinals Tuesday night were defeated.
No. 9 Grand Island fell to No. 8 Sweet Home 64-37 in the Class A-1 prequarterfinal on Tuesday night. Dakaylah Winfield scored 16 points and Lexi Kalinowski scored 10 to lead the Vikings. They finished the season 4-15.
No. 11 Lew-Port fell to No. 6 Sweet Home 65-41 in the Class A-2 prequarterfinal to end their season. They were led by Emily Muller who finished with 10 points. They finished 0-17.
7-Ken East 72, 10-North Tonawanda 50
Kaja O’Neill scored 19 points and Kendall Mills scored 14 as Ken East (7-12) defeated North Tonawanda (2-13) to move to the Class A-1 quarterfinals. Gretchen Ringler and Liz Wildt scored 14 points apiece for the Lady Jacks. The Bulldogs will play No. 2 Starpoint on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
St. Mary’s 43, Niagara Catholic 37
Despite Christina Schulte’s 18 points the Patriots (9-10, 2-7 MMA) fell to St. Mary’s (8-15, 3-6 MMA).
Park 62, Niagara Catholic 61
The Patriots (4-14, 2-13) had three players score in the double digits (Adamson 20, Jackson 18 and Williams 13) but it wasn’t enough against Park (11-9, 9-5 MMA).
