Area Sports Roundup: PAL Basketball, gymnastics and youth softball

Niagara Gazette — BASKETBALL

Johnny Dzweit netted a three-pointer at the buzzer to lead the Grizzlies over the Thunder, 97-94, in PAL Spring Basketball action. Matt McDonald led the Grizzlies with 23 points while Dzweit scored 17. Rob Harris led the Thunder with 27 points while Jamere Ollison added 16 of his own.

In other PAL hoops action, the Rockets beat the Lakers, 101-86. Marcus Feagin led the winners with 26 points with John Marsh adding 18 points. J.J. Wilkes led the Lakers with 27 points while Quandray Grey scored 25 points.

GYMNASTICS

Members of Gleason's School of Gymnastics were among the competitors at the New York State Level 6 meet in Orchard Park.

Kelsey Sciandra of North Tonawanda placed sixth on the beam with a score of 8.750 and finished with an overall score of 33.825. in the 12-year-old division.

In the 13-year-old division, Lindsey Kutlak of North Tonawanda scored a overall 33.500 including an 8.750 on bars.

YOUTH SOFTBALL

The 10-U Cayuga Gamblers defeated the Medina Fillies, 12-0, in Metro Girls Softball League play Tuesday. Jordyn Smith went 2-for-3, hitting a home run and driving in four runs. Emaleigh Cooper went 3-for-4, scoring three runs and batting two more home. Julia Beutel and Jordan Dixon combined for a no-hit shutout with a combined 10 strikeouts. The Gamblers are 2-0 on the season.
