COLLEGE ROUNDUP (Nov. 7): NU women skate past ’Cuse

Caitlin Jenkins scored the game-winning goal on a power play with 1:48 as the Niagara women’s hockey team came back to beat Syracuse 3-2 on Saturday and earn its first College Hockey America win of the season. Jenna Hendrikx scored her seventh goal of the season in the first period, and Jennifer MacLean scored a one-timer on a pass from Hendrikx early in the third. The Purple Eagles (4-4-2 overall, 1-1-0 CHA) return to Dwyer Arena after a six-game road trip on Saturday night to face Robert Morris in their “Pink the Rink” game to promote breast cancer awareness.
Women’s Volleyball

Michelle James, Hannah Hedrick and Kari Honomichl had double-doubles as the Purple Eagles (20-7 overall, 13-3 MAAC) broke a 16-year-old school record for victories in a season.
“We have learned to find ways to win, even when we are not as sharp as we would like,” coach Susan Clements. “To pick up another road win against a top team in our conference, as well as set the school record for wins, is special.”
Niagara, the MAAC’s second-place team, plays Siena at 2 p.m. Sunday in a match that will be televised live on Time Warner Cable channel 13.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
UB 82, Daemen 67
Zach Filzen scored 21 points, all on 3-point shots, to lead the Bulls in an exhibition game at Alumni Arena. Max Boudreau added 15 points, while Calvin Betts, Rodney Pierce and Titus Robinson each had 10. Byron Mulkey (Niagara-Wheatfield) did not play.
Football
Buff State 40, Morrisville State 27
Matt Pacana (North Tonawanda) had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and Jermaine Rose (Niagara Falls) recovered a fumble that led to another score as the Bengals (2-7, 2-6 NJAC) jumped out to a 33-0 lead. Buff State closes the season at home Saturday in the I-90 Bowl against Brockport.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Niagara 169, Gannon 125
Brian Sawma (Niagara Falls) won the 100 and 200 butterfly events for Niagara. Kevin Jennings (Roy-Hart) won the 50 and 100 freestyle race and also helped the 400 freestyle relay team to victory.
