HS ROUNDUP (Oct. 3): Bullock’s 35 leads Falls past GI

Medalist T.J. Bullock fired a one-under par 35 to help the Niagara Falls boys golf team squeak past the Vikings 240-243 in a Niagara Frontier League match at Hyde Park.
Dave Zajac and Greg Bullock each shot 39s for the Falls (3-10), and Mitch Fura added a 40. For GI (8-6), John Osberg finished with an even-par 36, and Ryan Johnson tallied a 39.
N-W 246, NT 283
Alex Burger of the Falcons claimed the title of medalist with an even-par 36 at Tan Tara. Nick Quarantillo racked up a 40 for Wheatfield (8-4-1 NFL). The top score for the Lumber Jacks (3-9-1) was a 46, tallied by both Dan Brick and Eric Labruna.
Ken East 238, Ken West 260
Today’s exciting rivalry match ended with a rare three-way tie for the medal, with Pierce Terrance and Anthony Coppola from Ken East, and Matt Kieta from Ken West all shooting two-over-par 38. Ken East (7-6 NFL) senior Kevin Jakes shot a personal best 39 in his final home match at Brighton Park. Also for East, senior Mike Wlodarczyk chipped in on the final hole for birdie. Billy Moore shot a 42 for West (0-12-1).
Girls Swimming
Lockport 75, Lew-Port 26
Spencer Saraf of Lockport won the 200 free and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay along with Lauren Lyons, Carmella Dimillo and Chelsea McKenna as the Lady Lions picked up the NFL win. Dimillo was also a member of the winning 400 free relay team along with Megan Murphy, Maria Cirello and Caroline Tolli. Murphy also won the 500 free, and Tolli won the 100 back for Lockport (1-0 NFL).
For Lew-Port (0-1), Chelsea O’Laughlin won the 50 free and 100 butterfly and was a member of the winning 200 free relay team, with Morgan Swift, Shannon McDonald, and Maggie Duffy.
NT 95, N-W 91
Krysta Cwynar led the Lady Jacks to the upset NFL victory with a solo victory in the 100 freestyle, as well as a win as part of the 200 free relay team that included Staci Czaja, Andi Parish and Taylor Ackerman. Parish was also victorious in the 200 free for NT (1-0), and Czaja picked up a win in the 100 breaststroke.
The Falcons (0-1) received victories in the 50 free and 500 free from Marissa Oakey, who also joined Marissa Watroba, Alexa Poliachik and Brandi Stenzil to form the winning 400 free relay squad.
Niagara Falls 99, Ken East 69
Kristen Champoux of the Falls ousted the competition in the 200 freestyle, and joined Emily York, Ana Gabriele and Ashley Eddings as the victorious 200 free relay group. York won the 200 individual medley for the Wolverines (1-0) and Gabriele was tops in the 50 free. Aubrey Rogers earned first place in diving action for the Falls.
Julia Deguerhery of East (0-1, 2-2) picked up wins in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Ken West 77, Grand Island 17
Marissa Dressel helped the Blue Devils to the NFL win, coming in first in the 200 individual medley, diving and 100 freestyle. She was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay, with Leah Villari, Megan Sullivan and Haley Rice, and the 400 free relay, along with Rice, Villari and Lindsey Sagasta. Dressel set a new pool record of 2 minutes, 08.66 seconds in winning the 200 IM, and the winning 400 free relay team set a new pool record and state-qualifying time with 3:43.29.
Grand Island dropped to 0-1 in the NFL.
Starpoint 101, Depew 74
Julie Strychalski of Depew came in first in the 100 free and 200 free and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay, with Miranda Smazniak, Jamie Reidy, and Brandy Amorosi. Reidy also won the 200 individual medley and 100 fly for Depew.
Starpoint’s Courtney Gfroerer won the 500 free and was a member of the winning 400 free relay with Brianna Brogan, Gabbi Gareacz and Jessica Peronne. Peronne also won the 50 free and 100 back for Starpoint (4-0 ECIC III), while Gareacz was a member of the winning 200 free relay along with Sarah Barclay, Kim Reinhart and Jen Kahi.
No record was available for Depew.
Eden 65, Tonawanda 35
Larissa Dobson was tops in the 200 individual medley, and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team alongside Leah Braymiller, Anne Skuse and Jess Doffer as Eden earned the ECIC IV victory. Dobson also anchored the winning 200 free relay group, which consisted of Skuse, Molly Miller and Caitlyn Kraska. Eden (5-0) also got two individual wins from Braymiller in the 50 free and 100 back.
The Warriors (2-3) benefited from Emily Christman’s diving victory, which marked the only first-place finish on the night for Tonawanda.

N.Tonawanda 3, N-W 1
Delaney Laper had 13 kills and 15 digs in NT’s 21-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-14 NFL win. Lauren Metzger had 17 digs and six kills for the Lady Jacks (9-4 overall, 7-2 NFL). Katie Gruarin had 16 digs for N-W (6-7, 5-4), while Kailey Walck had 15 assists and five digs.
Starpoint 3, Will. East 0
Junior Sydney Palka had 31 assists, six service points and three blocks for Starpoint (11-0 overall, 8-0 ECIC III) in its 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 win over Will. East. Palka’s senior sister Sam had 18 kills and eight service points, while Veronica Crosby had 10 kills, seven service points and six blocks in the win. Williamsville East dropped to 1-7 in league play.
Tonawanda 3, Lackawanna 2
Samantha Marcaccio had seven aces, five digs and seven assists in the Tonawanda (2-11 overall) victory. Also for the Warriors, Amber Lingenfelter had seven kills, six assists and three aces, while Danielle Azzarelli finished with four kills, four aces, two digs and two blocks.
No information was available for Lackawanna (2-9) and game scores were not provided by Tonawanda coach.

Lexi Raepple had 15 kills for GI as the Vikings earned the 25-18, 25-18, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 non-league win. Also for GI (5-7 overall, 4-5 NFL), Chelsea Hall had nine kills and four aces. Molly Bloom had six aces and 17 assists, while Jessica Senek had seven kills for Wilson (3-9, 3-6) in the loss.

Kelly Hughson had 18 service points, five aces and 10 digs for Albion, as it earned the non-league win, 25-16, 25-19, 25-11, 25-20. Paige Golden had 10 service points, two aces, 14 digs, six kills and five blocks for Albion, while Lisa Bierdeman had 10 digs, six kills, two blocks and 23 assists in the win. Stats and a record were not provided for Aquinas.

Mike Karpie led the charge for the Vikings with eight kills and four blocks in a 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 NFL sweep. Jeff Szczepaniak had seven kills, three digs and two aces for GI (8-2 overall, 7-2 NFL). Stephen Kojsza had four kills for Lockport (5-7, 3-6).
Niagara Falls 3, Lew-Port 0
Derek Mort helped the host Wolverines to the win, contributing 18 service points in a 25-7, 25-18, 25-11 win. Michael Watson had eight kills for the Wolverines (2-7, 2-7).
David Lilly had seven kills for L-P (0-9, 0-9), while Anthony Gabriele had four aces in the loss.
Tennis
N-W 4, Niagara Falls 1
Angela Hastings improved to 12-0 at first singles for the Falcons with her 6-0, 6-0 shutout of the Falls’ Kelsi Leo. Also for N-W (11-1 NFL), Kaite Frye and Jessica Hastings picked up singles wins. Alexis Schmitdke and Rachel Connors were victorious at first doubles for the Wolverines (3-9).
Ken West 3, Grand Island 2
The teams of Avery Fisher and Allie Diamond, and Katie Dzielski and Amanda Brylinski swept the doubles competitions as the Blue Devils earned the NFL win. Also for Ken West (8-4), Tara Lemen took first singles.
Kaitie Samland and Kelsey Mash picked up singles wins for the Vikings.
Starpoint 4, Springville 1
Jenna Maldiner, Chloe Withiam-Leitch and Meg Gildersleeve swept the singles competitions for the victorious Lady Spartans in ECIC III play. The sisters duo of Holly Zuch and Heather Zuch won at second singles for Starpoint (4-2).
Springville’s lone record came from the doubles team of Emily Parsons and Kelsey McCauley.
Girls Soccer
Akron 2, Wilson 1
Molly Curry scored the lone goal in the loss for Wilson (6-7-1 overall, 5-4-1 N-O). No information was provided for Akron, which improved to 7-2-0 in league play.
Roy-Hart 2, Barker 1
The visiting Rams (2-7) earned the Niagara-Orleans League victory, as Coleen Rausch had a pair of goals.
Nicole Estep had the lone goal for Barker, which dropped to 0-8 in the N-O.
Starpoint 11, Sweet Home 0
Teresa Delabio had four goals to give her 32 on the season as the Lady Spartans picked up the non-league win. Delabio, who added four assists, is now one behind the single-season school record of 33, set by Mindy Wendt in 2005. Also for Starpoint (11-2-1 overall), Kristi Delabio had four goals and both Nicole Borner and Michelle Hale added tallies. Marissa Chaffee added two assists and Chelsea Reed had the shutout in net. The Panthers dropped to 2-11 overall.
Boys Soccer
Kenmore East 4, Niagara Falls 0
Casey Sheehan and Cody Rouse each netted a pair of goals for the Bulldogs in the NFL win. James Quinn recorded the shutout in goal for East (9-1-3 overall, 7-0-3 NFL). No information was available for the Wolverines (1-11-1, 1-9-0).
Starpoint 3, Depew 0
Goalkeeper Tim Clark made seven saves in net to record his eighth shutout of the season in the Spartans’ ECIC III win. Nick Rowan, Chris Kufchak and Brett Smith scored for Starpoint (9-4 overall, 7-2 ECIC III). Depew fell to 3-5 in the league.
Tonawanda 1, Alden 0
Chris Vanderbrook scored on an assist by Stephen Linderman in the middle of the first half to score the only goal of the game. Steve Deck picked up the shutout win with four saves for the Warriors (2-9 overall, 2-5 ECIC IV). Anchoring the Tonawanda defense were William Strehlow and Muana Kpaka. Alden’s record fell to 0-8-1 overall and 0-6-1 in league play on the season.
Field Hockey
Amherst 3, Starpoint 1
Senior Brittany Braun scored her first goal of the season, and the only goal for Starpoint as they fell in ECIC III action. Lauren Williams tied the game for Amherst (4-5-2) before the half, but goals from Amanda Kupus and Caroline Sebol put away any chance of coming back for the Lady Spartans (2-7-3 overall, 1-6-3).
